CBSE Class 12-science Answered

Which one's density is higher - Na or K, and why? (Sorry, this question is of class XI chemistry.          I wasn't able to post this question anywhere else.)

Density is mass per unit volume. In this case of alkali metals, mass dominates, as we go down the group, the mass increases, hence, density should increase.
This is true when we consider the case of Li and Na, as density-wise Na>Li.
In case of potassium, due to the addition of d-subshells, its volume abruptly increases, and hence, density decreases. It becomes even less than Na.
