Rigidity: It is the main identifying characteristic of solids. It is the property by which particles of a solid remain fixed at their position and are able to maintain their shape when subjected to outside force.

Compressibility: It is a property by which the volume of a substance can be reduced, or a substance can be made compact, by pressing it. It is a property shown by both liquids and gases.
