Functions of ecosystem:

• An ecosystem helps to maintain the balance between its components by different methods say through various biogeochemical cycles.

• Matter is constantly circulated in the components of ecosystem to maintain the balance

 Components of the ecosystem:

• Abiotic components - The abiotic components are all non-living components of an ecosystem. These include sunlight, air, water, soil and climatic factors such as wind, temperature, rainfall etc.

• Biotic components - The biotic components are all living components of an ecosystem. These include animals, plants and microorganisms. They constitute the food-obtaining steps or trophic levels of the ecosystem.
