. Preeti reached the metro station and found that the escalator was not working. She walked up the stationary escalator in time 𝑡1. On other days, if she remains stationary on the moving escalator, then the escalator takes her up in time 𝑡2. The time taken by her to walk up on the moving escalator will be   (a) 𝑡1𝑡2 𝑡2− 𝑡1 (b) 𝑡1𝑡2 𝑡2+ 𝑡1 (c) 𝑡1− 𝑡2 (d) 𝑡1+𝑡2 2

Let d be the distance to be travelled .

Walking speed of Preeti on stationary escalator = ( d / t1 )

Speed of escalator alone when Preeti remains stationary = ( d / t2 )

Speed v of Preeti while walking on a moving escaltor seen from statioanry observer
away from  escaltoris given as

v = ( d / t1 ) + ( d / t2 )  = d ( t1 t2 ) / ( t1 + t2 )

Time taken if preeti is walking on a moving escalator = distance / speed = d / v  = ( t1 + t2 ) / ( tt)
