How could Thomson say that the production of cathode rays did not depend on the kind of gas in the tube or the type of metal used for the electrodes? What conclusion does he draw from these observations?

He concluded that cathode rays have particle property. When a negatively charged particle moves from cathode to anode it is called cathode ray. These particles have the same properties in all metals and gases. These particles are called electrons which are having negative charge.
