CBSE Competency Based Questions

Once the National Education Policy of 2020 was released, the CBSE curriculum underwent massive changes. This change in curriculum brought on competency-based education, where both classes 10 and 12 would have to give an examination of competency-based questions. This change may have been abrupt, but it was made to contribute better to students' future.

With TopperLearning’s case study and assertion-reasoning questions, you can prepare and excel at competency-based questions.

What are Competency-Based Questions?

The competency-based questions are case study questions or questions based on real-life situations. These questions would assess your ability to apply learning instead of your memory. These questions and the competency-based education method allow you to assess your real-life skills, further solidifying your critical thinking and creative skills.

These competency-based questions require you to demonstrate your abilities and competencies. You will not be asked to give factual answers. Instead, you will have to demonstrate what you already know and how to apply it.

Question Paper Pattern

The competency-based questions come in the multiple-choice questions (MCQ) form. The MCQs would give you options for each question, from which you would have to select the right answer. You must answer the questions using your abilities and knowledge according to the specific criteria.

The competency-based questions are an amalgamation of case-based questions, MCQs, and other combined questions. Since the introduction of the NEP 2020 curriculum, the CBSE Class 10 and Class 9 question pattern has included competency-based questions of at least 30%. Also, similar to the previous curriculum, the rest of the question paper will involve long and short objective questions. However, for CBSE class 12 and class 11, the competency-based questions will only constitute 20%, and the rest will be as they were before.

CBSE Class 10 Case Study Questions

Case-study questions will cover 30% of the overall paper. There will be multiple-choice, application-based and source-based integrated questions. These questions will test your analytic skills. Our CBSE Class 10 Case Study Questions and study resources can help you deal with tricky questions and preparation techniques. You can also view the chapter-wise list of the questions on our platform.

CBSE Class 10 Assertion And Reasoning Questions

Assertion And Reasoning Questions have two sections, Assertion statements and reason statements. Students must go through both statements, recognize the concepts, and choose the correct option. Benefits of Competency-Based Learning

Since establishing the competency-based curriculum, it has shifted the focus of students, teachers, and schools towards strengthening high-order thinking and rational skills. So, competency-based learning has had many benefits towards the growth of students. With our competency-based question samples, students will receive the following benefits.

Help in Developing Real-Life Skills

Compared to the focus of education before, competency-based learning focuses on retaining useful information, which will help you measure the complex skills you will need to survive in today’s world. This shift in learning has updated the learning methods of students according to the demands of the present time.

Prevention of Rote Learning

Since competency-based learning does not focus on your ability to be able to memorize concepts, you will not have to focus on simply remembering your knowledge. On the contrary, you will focus on your ability to implement your knowledge, and implementation creates practice which removes rote learning.

Conclusion

Many benefits and advantages come with the new CBSE curriculum, which will change how students learn. But the fact remains that in comparison to the previous curriculum, this change only affects 30% to 20% of the student’s education, and there remains some dependency on rote learning. However, at the same time, the effect of competency-based learning is bringing changes that could revolutionize the CBSE education system.
