ShareToday, on March 2nd, 2024, CBSE successfully conducted the Class 10 Science Examination, marking the first major board paper for CBSE Class 10 students. With around 21 lakh students taking part in the CBSE Class 10 examination this year, the atmosphere was filled with a mix of nervousness, exhilaration, and plain excitement. Students have described the paper as moderately easy and well-balanced.
Question Paper Structure:
Let’s go through the paper structure before moving on to paper analysis.
The CBSE 10 Science paper was 80 marks and comprised 39 questions. The paper was divided into five sections: A, B, C, D and E. The time allotted for the paper was 3 hours.
Section A had 20 objective types of questions, each carrying 1 mark comprising MCQs and Assertion – Reasoning-based questions.
Section B had 6 VSAQs, each carrying two marks comprising reasoning and application-oriented questions.
Section C had 7 SAQs, each carrying three marks comprising diagram-based, numerical, and HOTs-type questions.
Section D consisted of 3 LAQs carrying five marks each.
Section E consisted of 3 source-based or case-based units of assessment of 4 marks each with sub-parts.
All the questions were compulsory. However, an internal choice was provided in some questions where students were expected to attempt only one of these questions.

- Experts found the CBSE 10 science paper to be easy to moderate overall
- Nothing in the paper was outside the prescribed syllabus.
- Approximately 60-70% of the questions were directly from the textbook.
- Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs) were mostly of moderate level and required conceptual understanding.
- Case-based questions ranged from easy to moderate in difficulty according to the teachers' analysis.
Conclusion
As compared to the previous year, this year's Science paper presented a moderate level of difficulty and one with a good conceptual understanding would easily score 70+ marks out of 80. Now, it's time to gear up for the Social Science paper, which is scheduled to be held on March 7th, 2024.
