answered-by-expert Expert Answer
The power from the generating station is transmitted over long distances at a higher voltage to minimise the loss of energy in the form of heat in the line wires used for transmission.
Wire resistance causes losses in eletric power transmission.
For a given electric power, the current becomes low at a high voltage and therefore, the loss of energy due to heating (H = I2Rt) in the line wires becomes less.
