When we close a part of the opening of water tap with our finger, fast jets of water gush through the opening. Explain Why?

As we close the water-tap with our finger, the area of cross-section of the opening between the finger and tap boundary decreases quite appreciably. In accordance with the equation of continuity (a1v= a2v2), the velocity of water increases enormously and fast jets of water gush through the opening.
