CBSE Class 11-science Answered

Water flows through a pipe whose internal diameter is 4 cm at a speed of 2 m/s. What should be the diameter of the nozzle, if the water is to emerge out with a speed of 4 m/s.

answered-by-expert Expert Answer

v1 = 2 m/s, v2 = 4 m/s

r1 = 4/2 = 2 cm = 0.02 m
Let r2 be the radius of the nozzle. Then, according to the equation of continuity, we have
a1v1 = a2v2    or πr12 x v1 = πr22 x v2

Syntax error from line 1 column 49 to line 1 column 73. Unexpected '<mstyle '.
Therefore, the diameter of the nozzle = 2r2 = 2 x 0.014 = 0.028 m  3 cm
