In anode rays( canal rays) the nature of gas is important.

Therefore if we use hydrogen gas, the positively charged particles will be H+ only, but for oxygen gas , the positvely charged particles of canal rays will be O+ and O++

Thus, the +ve ly charged particles carry multiple of charge( ie. ++ and +)
