Expert Answer
Unity and development are said to go hand in hand because
- If the divisions between different sections of India existed, then it could result in violent and costly conflicts, i.e. high castes fighting with low castes, Hindus fighting with Muslims and so on.
- Also, new divisions would have got created if the fruits of economic development did not reach the broad masses of the population. Example: Divisions between the rich and the poor, between cities and the countryside, and between regions of India that were prosperous and regions that lagged behind.
