We have equation of motion that relates distance S travelled in time t as,  " S = u t - (1/2) g t2 "

if t1 and t2 are the times for travelling same vertical distance h, then we have

h = u t1 - (1/2) g t12 = u t2 - (1/2) g t22 ................(1)

where u is initial velocity

from eqn.(1), we get ,  u ( t1 - t2 ) = (1/2) g [ t12 - t22 ]    or    u  = (g/2) [ t1 + t2 ] ............. (2)

we get , time to reach maximum height as  ,   ( u/g ) = (1/2) [ t1 + t2 ]
