Lanthanum does not have eelctrons in 4f orbitals. So, it is not included in lanthanoid series. Hoeever, it is usually included in the discussion about lanthanoids since its properties resemble lanthanoids.
Similarly, Ac does not have electrons in 5f orbitals. So, it is not included in actinoid series. Hoeever, it is usually included in the discussion about actinoids since its properties resemble actinoids.
