position x = t2 - 3t  ...........................(1)

since position is expressed as a function of t,  time of maximum displacement   xmax is obtained by equating dx/dt to zero,

dx/dt = 2t - 3 = 0  or   at t = 3/2 we have maximum displacement .  Maximum displacement  xmax = (1.5)2 - 3(1.5) = -2.25

at t = 3 s,  displacement = 32 - 3(3) = 0

hence from t=0 to t=3 s particle has moved a distance 2.25 m in negative direction then  moved to position x=0.

Hence total distance moved in 3 s is 4.5 m  .  Hence average speed = distance/time = 4.5/3 = 3/2 m/s
