my question is from topic gravitation,,, CALCULATE THE HEIGHT OF COMMUNICATION SATELLITE.GIVEN THAT G=6.67*10 RAISE TO THE POWER-11 Nm square/kg square,,M=6*10 RAISE TO THE POWER 24KG,,R=6400 KM .. ANS GIVEN TO THIS QUESTION IS 35.9*10RAISE TO THE POWER 6 . PLEASE EXPLAIN HOW?

Expert Answer:

Gravitational force = Centripetal force
GMm/r2 = mV2/r
Now V = 2πr/T
GMm/r2 = m(2πr/T)2/r
GM/r = (2πr/T)2
r3 = (R + h)3 = GMT2/(4π2)
For communication satellite T = 24 hrs = 24x 3600 s
r3 = (R + h)3 = 6.67x10-11x6x1024(24x 3600)2/(4π2) = 7575046127.63x 1013 m3
 r = 4231.18 x 104 m = 42312 km
r = R + h = 42312 km
h = 42312 - 6400 = 35912 km = 35.9 x 106 m
