moment of force

Expert Answer:
Since cross sectional area is directly propotional to the diameter squared, and stress is force per area,
the forces in two wires are related as,
FA = 4FS
Also the rod is rotational equilibrium, hence if the mass m has to be suspended at a distance x from steel wire,
FS x = FA ( 1.05 - x) ... (1)
x = 4( 1.05 - x)
x = 0.84 m from steel wire.
