CBSE Class 11-science Answered
MOI of rod 1/4 distance from the end
Asked by arushidabhade | 02 Feb, 2020, 12:00: PM
Expert Answer
Let L be the length of rod and C is at centre.
By parallel axis theorem, Moment of inertia I of the rod about axis passing through a point
which is at a distance L/4 from end of rod is given by
I = IC + M(L/4)2
where IC is moment of inertia of rod about an axis passing through centre of mass at C an M is mass of rod
Hence IC = ( ML2 / 12 ) + M ( L/4 )2 = (7/48) ML2
