Mitosis is the process of cell division in which a cell divides to form two daughter cells with identical sets of chromosomes. The daughter cells are identical to the parent cell. The nuclear division is followed by the cytoplasmic division.

Meiosis is a reduction type of division in which each daughter cell receives half the amount of DNA as the parent cell. Meiosis occurs during formation of egg and sperm cells in mammals.
