Friction - The force which always opposes the motion of one object over another object in contact with it is called friction.
Kinetic friction - Kinetic friction occurs when two objects are moving relative to each other and rub together (like a sled on the ground).
Static Friction
Static friction is the force between two objects that are not moving relative to each other. When there is no applied force, there is no static friction. It comes into play the moment there is an applied force.
