ICSE Class 10 Answered

How far must a 250 kg pile driver fall if it is to be capable of doing 12700 J of work?

Expert Answer
Work done = Force × dispacement
W = Fs ... (1)
W =12700 J ... (Given)
F = mg = 250 × 9.8 = 2450 N
s - distance at which the pile driver will fall

Thus,
12700 = 2450 × s
s = 5.18 m
