Give a comparative account of the chemistry of carbon and silicon with regard to their property of catenation.

Carbon shows property of catenation to more extent than silicon due to small size and tendency to form p∏-p∏ multiple bonds with itself; bond length of C-C is more than that of Si-Si.

C-C > Si-Si
