a train travels from one station to another station at the speed of 40km/h and returnes at a speed of 60km/h. calculate the average speed and average velocity

Average speed = distance / time
Let d be the distance between one staion and another station.
If t1 is time taken for onward journey = distance /speed = (d/40) hr
If t2 is time taken for return journey = distance/speed = (d/60) hr
average speed = total distance / time

average velocity = displacement / time
since train returned to starting point , displacement = 0
hence average velocity = 0
