A river is flowing at 2m/s . A man is sailing at a velocity 10m/s with respect to river in a direction perpendicular to the river. If the width of the river is 400m , then how far from the directly opposite to starting point does he reach on another bank ?

width of river = 400 m
 
swimming speed = 10 m/s;
 
time taken to cross the river = ( distance / speed ) = 400/10 = 40 s ;
 
Horizontal displacement due to river speed = speed×time = 40×2 = 80 m
