CBSE Class 11-science Answered
A ball is dropped from a building 100m high at the same instance a ball is thrown vertically upwards from the base of the building with what velocity should this ball be thrown so that the two balls collide at a height of. 50 m

time t for dropped ball to reach 50 m distance from top can be obtained from,
S = (1/2)gt2 , where S is the distance 50 m and g is accelertion due to gravity
hence, we have t = ( 2 S / g )1/2 = (100/9.8)1/2 ≈ 3.2 s
Now in this 3.2 s , the ball thrown from bottom shoud reach 50 m.
we have the relation, S = u×t - (1/2)×g×t2 ..............................(1)
where S is the ditance 50 m and u is the intial speed of ball thrown from bottom
Substituting the values in eqn.(1), we get u = 31.3 m/s
