Expert Answer
Hydration energy: Hydration energy of an ion is the amount of energy released when a mole of the ion dissolves in a large amount of water forming an infinite dilute solution in the process.
M(g)+ + aq → M(aq)+ + hydration energy
X(g)- + aq → X(aq)- + hydration energy
Ionisation enthalpy: Ionisation enthalpy is defined as the amount of energy required to remove the most loosely bound electron from the isolated gaseous atom in its ground state.
X(g) → X+(g) + e-
Atomisation enthalpy of an element is the energy required to produce one mole of free gaseous atoms of that element.
Na(s) → Na(g)
Atomisation enthalpy of a compound is the energy required to convert one mole of a compound into its free gaseous atoms.
CH4(g) → C(g) + 4H(g)
