State a relevant reason for the following: Ammonia gas is not collected over water.

Ammonia gas can not be collected over water because this gas is highly soluble in water and due to its high solubility.
 Ammonia on reaction with water gives hydronium ion and ammonium ion.
Hence, ammonia gas is collected by downward displacement of air since it is lighter than air.
