Pulling a lawn roller:
The vertical component of the force applied acts in upward direction. Due to this, apparent weight of the lawn roller decreases i.e.,
Wapparent = mg - Fv
Pushing the lawn roller: 
The vertical component of the force applied acts in downward direction. Due to this, apparent weight of the lawn roller eventually increases i.e.,
Wapparent = mg + Fv
Hence it is easier to pull a lawn roller than to push.
Correct option is (a).
