Qn. 40 :-
 
if in (t-1) seconds, distance travelled is h/2, then we have ,  (1/2)g(t-1)2 = h/2  .......................(1)
 
if in t  seconds, distance travelled is h, then we have ,  (1/2)g t2 = h  .......................(2)
 
By dividing eqn.(1) by eqn.(2), we get,    [ (t-1)2 / t2 ] = 1/2    or    [ (t-1) / t ] = 1/√2   ..............(3)
 
By solving eqn.(3) for t, we get t = 2+√2
