One number is 7 more than another and it's square is 77 more than the square of the smaller number. What are the numbers?

Expert Answer
If one number is x, then another number (x+7)
Square of bigger number is 77 less than the square of smaller number.
(x+7)2 = x2
x2 + 14x + 49 = x2+77
14x + 49 = 77
14x = 28 or x=2
Hence two numbers are 2 and 9
