is function and derivative the same?

function and derivative are different. Function is relation between physical quantities.
For example, in uniformly accelerated motion,distance travelled as a function of time is given below
S(t) = u×t +(1/2)a×t2
The above relation is expressed as how distance S varies with time t for given initial velocity u and given acceleration a .
In the above function time t is independent variable.
Derivative or differentiation of function describes how the function changes due to change of independent variable.
Derivative of function S(t) is expressed as ( dS/dt ).
In derivative we are intrested how function S at given time t , will change to S+dS for a change in time from t to t+dt.
