Explain formation of dipole.wid diagrams

As shown in fig.1, when atom is in free space, centre of +ve charged nucleus and centre of -ve charged electron cloud coincide.
Hence atom behaves electrically neutral.
 
As shown in fig.2, when atom is placed in electric field, there is a displacement of centre of +ve charge nucleus towards -ve potential.
Similarly there is a displacement of centre of -ve charged electron cloud. 
 
Hence as shown in fig.3, atom becomes dipole that consists of +q charge and -q charge separated by a distance 2l.
Magnitude of this dipole vector is 2ql. By convention direction of dipole vector is from -ve charge to +ve charge
