Expert Answer
In physics, when a force F acts on a body for a short period Δt, then the product of force F and time Δt is known as impulse.
Since we have, rate of change of momentum of an object d(mv)/dt equals the force F acting on the object ,
product of force F and time period of acting force dt equals change in momentum.
Hence impulse due to force F acting on object for a short time dt equals chamge in momentum of the object
The SI unit of impulse is the newton second (N⋅s), and the dimensionally equivalent unit of momentum is the kilogram meter per second (kg⋅m/s).
