CBSE Class 9 Answered

According to the law of gravitation every particle in this universe attracts every other particle. In matter every particle attracts every other particle with intramolecular force of attraction. Is this attraction between particles of matter due to gravitation? If not then why attraction between particles of matter takes place?

It is true every particle attracts other particles in the universe.
But this force of attraction is significant only if the involved masses are huge like mass of earth, mass of sun , mass of moon etc.
Gravitational force of attraction between tiny molecules are highly insignificant because involved mass is of the order of 10-27 kg.

Reason for initer moleculer force of attraction:-
Isolated atom or molecule is electrically neutral. In neutral atom/molecule, centre of positive charge and centre of negative charge coincides.
But in presence of nearby atoms/molecules, there is slight shift between centre of positive charge and centre of negative charge.
Due to this shift, atoms/molecules in matter are attracted towards each other.
