Horizontal range for projectile motion = (u2 × sin2α ) / g

where u is projection speed, α is projection angle

Hence maximum range Rmax is given by ( if α = 45 ),  Rmax = u2 /g = 80 m  ......................(1)

If stone is projected vertically and Hmax is maximum height reachable,    then Hmax   = u2/2g  ...............(2)

using eqn.(1), maximum height  Hmax = 80/2 = 40 m
