The compound which is prepared from gypsum on heating is Plaster of Paris.
 
The formula is CaSO4 .1/2H2O
 
Chemical equation:
 
CaSO subscript 4. space 2 straight H subscript 2 straight O space rightwards arrow with increment on top space space CaSO subscript 4. space bevelled fraction numerator 1 over denominator 2 space end fraction straight H subscript 2 straight O space space plus space 1 half straight H subscript 2 straight O Gypsum space space space space space space space space space space space space space space space space space space Plaster space of space paris
 
Use:
 
It is used in hospitals as a plaster for setting fractured bones.
