A bird hit the windscreen of a fast moving car and fell on the bonnet. Which of the two, car or the bird, suffers greater change in momentum?

Hi Shubh,

Initially the bird's speed was less than the speed of the car.

After hitting the car, the bird falls on the bonnet of the car. Hence, we can say that the final speed of the bird becomes equal to that of the car.

However, the car is still travelling with the same speed. So, the bird undergoes larger change in speed than the car.

Hence, the bird suffers larger change in momentum than the car.

Metallic components that are generally used in construction of big structures like buildings, machines and also scientific equipment. The cracks or holes inside metal blocks, which are invisible from outside, reduce the strength of the structure. Ultrasonic waves are allowed to pass through the metal block and detectors are used to detect the transmitted waves. If there is even a small defect, the ultrasound gets reflected back indicating the presence of flaw or defect.
