Specialised body to take over the responsibility of entrance exams from CBSE
HRD ministry to introduce a specialised panel of experts to ease the pressure off CBSE.
A while ago, the CBSE had complained that conducting entrance exams like National Eligibility Test (NET), JEE Main and National Eligibility Cum Entrance Test (NEET) was extremely time-consuming. It had stated that due to this additional responsibility, it was unable to focus on activities related to affiliations and conducting its own examinations. In a bid to release CBSE from this responsibility, the Human Resource Development (HRD) Ministry is serious talks to create a specialised body to conduct entrance examinations such as National Eligibility Test (NET), JEE Main and National Eligibility Cum Entrance Test (NEET).
A source in the HRD ministry stated, “CBSE will conduct the examinations that it is supposed to do for this year and the next year till a decision on forming the new body is taken.”
The idea of creating a separate body is inspired from the American Educational Testing Service (ETS), the world's largest private nonprofit educational testing and assessment organization, which conducts 20 million exams in the U.S. and in 180 other countries.
