Mumbai to Get 14 New Colleges

Out of 228 applications to set up new colleges, Mumbai University (MU) has accepted 14 applications. The criterion that MU has kept in mind is that only new colleges offering innovative courses will be permitted to be set up.

MU had set up a committee to scrutinize and inspect the colleges, and as a result, very few colleges were shortlisted. Out of 228 applications received, 135 were for undergraduate courses and 93 were for post-graduate courses. The shortlisted colleges list also includes three community colleges.

Admissions to these selected colleges will only commence after the state government’s approval has been obtained. Most of these innovative courses are designed to be job oriented. Courses such as B. Com. in Financial Management, Transport Management and Investment Management are designed after taking current job scenarios into account. These innovative courses will help students simultaneously apply for jobs in multiple fields.
