Mumbai University's academic council recently decided to cancel the extension of affiliation (EoA) of engineering colleges, which have been denied EoA by the All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE). Due to this, these institutes won’t have any new admissions for this academic year.

The order will be revoked, if AICTE's action is also withdrawn by the court. A report submitted to the university by local inquiry committees, which visited all the 64 engineering colleges affiliated to Mumbai University. Of the 64 colleges, three have permanent affiliation from the university. The rest of the colleges seek temporary affiliation every year.
