ShareThe examinations for the Maharashtra State Secondary Education Board (MSB board) class 10 board started on 1st March 2024. The students appeared today for their second last examination, i.e., Social Science Paper-I (History and Political Science). The examination was 2 hours long and the time slot for the exam was from 11 A.M. to 1 P.M. The examination was conducted at all the schools affiliated to the Maharashtra State Board. This year, around 15 lakh students are appearing for the MSB class 10 board examination.
As it was the second-last examination, the students were excited to appear for the exam. The students appeared confident about their preparation. The exam paper had a moderate difficulty level based on the reviews by the students. The paper was a little bit lengthy and the students were able to complete the paper within the allotted time. Let us analyse the MSB class 10 Social Science Paper-I (History and Political Science) in detail.
Question Paper Structure
The MSB class 10 Social Science examination is conducted in three parts: social science paper-I for history and political science of 40 marks, social science paper-II for geography of 40 marks and internal assessment of 20 marks. Here, we are analysing the social science paper-I, which was conducted today, 22nd March 2024.
The Social Science Paper-I followed the revised syllabus MSB board pattern that includes multiple kinds of questions based on the prescribed history and political science textbooks.
Let us have a look at the paper structure.
The exam paper was aligned with the specimen papers and previous years' MSB board question papers. As per the MSB board pattern, the question paper consisted of 9 questions. Questions 1 to 5 were based on the History syllabus and questions 6 to 9 were based on the Political Science syllabus for the academic year 2023-2024.
Question 1 included two parts: question 1(A), which had MCQ-based questions and question 1(B), which had wrong-pair questions. Students had to attempt all the questions. The complete question was of 6 marks, with each subquestion of 3 marks.
Question 2 consisted of two parts: question 2(A) had concept map-based questions. Students had to attempt any two of them. Question 2(B) had short answer questions. Students had to answer any two of the subparts. This complete question was of 8 marks, with 4 marks for each sub-question.
Question 3 included reasoning-based questions. Students had to answer the subparts and give a proper reason for their answer. This question was of 4 marks. Students had to answer any two of the subparts.
Question 4 consisted of a passage-based question. The question was of 4 marks. There were three questions based on the extract. Students had to answer all the questions.
Question 5 included detailed answer-based questions. The question was of 6 marks. Students had to attempt any two of the given subparts.
Question 6 consisted of MCQ-based questions. All the questions were compulsory. The question was of 2 marks.
Question 7 included true and false questions. Students had to attempt any two of the subparts. The question was of 4 marks.
Question 8 consisted of two parts: 8(A) included definition-based questions, students had to attempt any one of the subparts and 8(B) included instructional-based questions, students had to attempt any one of the subparts. This question was of 4 marks.
Question 9 included brief answer-type questions. This question was of 2 marks. Students had to attempt any one of the two questions.

Social science papers hold significant value in the final percentage of students. Every student who had studied their chapters well in detail could have easily scored 30+ marks in the exam.
The Social Science paper-II will be the next examination on 26th March. It will be the last examination of the MSB board class 10 exams. Students are excited for their last examination and today's exam has increased their confidence too.
