Nehru was so fond of children that he was also referred as Chacha Nehru. He was keen about the welfare and development of children and saw them as leaders of future India. In India, Children’s Day is celebrated on 14th November; however, Universal Children’s Day is celebrated on 20th November, the world over. The first ever Children’s Day was celebrated in 1954.

Children’s Day is celebrated in a grand way in schools all over India. Teachers go out of their way to prepare programmes that children will love and remember. On this day, they make sure that children feel special, important and loved.

Amidst all the celebrations of children’s day, one thing that must be kept in mind is the message of Jawaharlal Nehru. Nehru always wanted to provide a  safe and secure environment for children, where they could be nurtured and developed into good individuals.  For, it is only children are given the opportunity to prosper and excel, will the nation progress.
