Important Computer Shortcuts You Must Know

Ctrl+C and Ctrl+Insert:

These shortcuts are used to copy things. All you need to do is select the text you want to copy and press Ctrl+C or Ctrl+Insert.

Ctrl+V or Shift+Insert:

Ctrl+V is the shortcut for pastin g your text after copying it.

Ctrl+X:

It copies and cuts the text. So, if you want to place text somewhere else in a document, you can cut it and paste it somewhere else.

Ctrl+Z:

Ctrl+Z is a saviour in the computer world. When you want to undo certain things, do a Ctrl+Z.

Ctrl+Y:

It is the opposite of Ctrl+Z. It will redo your undo.

Ctrl+S:

This shortcut is used to save the file.

Ctrl+U:

It underlines the selected text.

Ctrl+F:

With Ctrl+F, you can find and replace text in your document. Example: If you want to replace a word, you hit Ctrl+F, a dialogue box appears; you enter the words to find and replace, and click replace or replace all.

Ctrl+I:

This is used to convert the text style into italics. Select the text and then press Ctrl+I.

Ctrl+B:

This is used to make the selected text bold. Ctrl+B makes your letters bold.

Alt+Tab:

Alt+Tab is used to shift between open programs on your computer.

Ctrl+Tab:

Ctrl+Tab helps you shift between the open tabs of your browser.

Ctrl+Backspace:

It deletes a word at a time instead of just one character.

Ctrl+ Left arrow/Right arrow:

If you hold Ctrl and the left/right arrow, the cursor will move one word at a time instead of one character.

Ctrl+Home:

This shortcut moves the cursor to the beginning of the document.

Ctrl+End:

If you want to directly get to the end of the document, then instead of scrolling all the way, you can press Ctrl+End.

Ctrl+P:

This is used to print your current page.

F2:

If you want to rename a file, select a file and press F2.

F5:

F5 refreshes the window you are viewing.

Ctrl+Esc:

Press these keys together to open the start menu.

Alt+F4:

It closes your current program.

Alt+Enter:

To go to the properties of files, folders, shortcuts, you need to press Alt+Enter.

Shift+Del+Enter:

It deletes any file or folder permanently. You will not even find these deleted files in your recycle bin.

Ctrl+H:

It opens your browsing history. So, if you want to check your browsing history, Ctrl+H is all you have to do.

Ctrl+A:

 It selects or highlights everything in a document.

Esc:

It cancels the ongoing task.

Windows+E:

It opens ‘My Computer’.

Windows+R:

It opens the run tab. You can start any program from there.

Windows+M:

It minimises all the windows to show the desktop.

Windows+Shift+M:

It restores all the minimised windows.
