The CBSE and state education board students have been beaten by ICSE students in the National Achievement Survey (NAS) of 2015.

Statistics of NAS provided by the State Education Department revealed that apart from Social Science, ICSE was the clear leader in English, Science and Mathematics.

NAS is conducted by NCERT and the scores are based on a written exam held at randomly chosen schools of different boards.

The following are the scores of all the three boards out of 400:

With the State Board schools performance debacle now out in the open, the Maharashtra government is working on rectifying the situation. Activity-based learning and changes in assessment patterns are some measures the state plans to take to bring the score to a minimum 300 by the next survey. Under this initiative, the state will categorise  bigger schools in a particular region as ‘mother schools’, and these will be responsible for checking how regularly students in the vicinity are attending school. The step is expected to be instrumental in minimizing dropout rates at the secondary level.
