CBSE to Include Self-defense Training for Girls in Schools

The Central Board of Secondary Education has directed the principals of all schools to train girl students to defend themselves by providing them self-defense training. The Board has also asked the schools to invite officials from police stations to train students from Class 1 to 10. Apart from preparing girls for any unpleasant activity, it is beneficial for increasing their physical fitness.

The prime focus of this initiative is to teach girls how to identify and avoid potentially unsafe circumstances. To ensure the safety of girls requires various measures, and the school can contribute to this cause by organising such self-defense trainings.

The Board had earlier suggested that there should be at least 40 to 45 minutes of physical activities or game period every day. However, now it suggests that one period of each day should be for self-defense activities. It is anticipated that all schools will follow these directives, as the measures will increase self-confidence and the sense of safety among girls.
