CBSE Class 12 Maths 2020 Post - Paper Analysis

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) conducted the Mathematics exam for students of Class 12 today, 17th March 2020.

Question Paper Structure

1.      The question paper consisted of 36 questions divided into four sections—A, B, C and D.

2.      Section A comprised 20 questions of 1 mark each. Section B comprised 6 questions of 2 marks each. Section C comprised 6 questions of 4 marks each. Section D comprised 4 questions of 6 marks each.

3.      There was no overall choice. However, an internal choice was provided in three questions of 1 mark each, two questions of 2 marks each, two questions of 4 marks each and two questions of 6 marks each. Students had to attempt only one of the alternatives in all such questions.

The chapter Continuity and Differentiability had the highest number of questions asked, followed by Three-Dimensional Geometry and Vector Algebra.

Marks-wise too, Continuity and Differentiability had the highest total marks. More questions were asked from the derivatives part of this chapter.

Application of Derivatives and Probability had a good share of marks distributed between them. As far as Matrices and Determinants were concerned, there was a choice given to students to choose a 6-mark question from either of the two chapters, which shifted the weightage.

More weightage was given to Three-Dimensional Geometry this time as compared to Vector Algebra. As usual, Vector Algebra and Three-Dimensional Geometry had questions related to finding out the angle between vectors, distance between parallel planes and finding the equation of planes.

In conclusion, the CBSE Class 12 Maths paper was of medium difficulty level. One-mark questions required some time to solve; hence, time management may have been an issue in this exam. We hope that students completed the paper by adopting a properly timed approach when answering the questions. Students who practised past years’ papers while also keeping an eye on managing their time well would easily score 90+ in this exam.

The Business Studies exam is a few days away and students can refer to the following links for preparing for the last paper:
