Advertorial: Show the world that you care

While we all know how important it is to step out from the confines of our homes and do something for our communities, our hectic schedules leave us with very little time to look beyond our own lives.

This holds true for students as well. With the increasing pressure of academics and extra-curricular activities, even play time is very limited. So to give up on that and instead volunteer can be challenging for most children.

Volunteering however, can be very rewarding. It helps build confidence and self-esteem and allows students the opportunity to learn new skills. It also promotes qualities such as leadership, personal initiative, creativity and most importantly, empathy for those who are not as privileged.

Fortunately, there are shining examples of students who are today choosing to spend their free hours volunteering and helping the less advantaged. They are teaching the poor, protecting the environment, offering means of livelihood, and raising awareness about social issues.

The Pramerica Spirit of Community Awards seeks to recognize the remarkable accomplishments of such students who are making a positive difference in their communities through voluntary community service. Introduced in 2010, the programme also aims to inspire and encourage other youngsters to start contributing to their communities.

National winners receive a cash prize of Rs. 50,000/- and are felicitated in an annual gala award ceremony in Washington, D.C. through an all-expenses paid trip to this ceremony.
