why stomata is located on lower part of leaf?

Expert Answer:
The upper leaf surface receives more intense and direct sunlight and hence having many stomata on the upper side would lead to loss of huge amounts of water through transpiration. In order to reduce the excess loss of water through transpiration, leaves have more stomata on the lower surface, which are shielded from the direct sunlight.
