When two straight parallel metallic wires carry current in the opposite directions, the magnetic field & thus the magnetic lines of force due to them are in same direction, hence the wires attract each other.
When two straight parallel metallic wires carry current in the same directions, the magnetic field & thus the magnetic lines of force due to them are in opposite direction, hence the wires repel each other.
