CBSE Class 12-science Answered

Why azeotropes can not be separated by fractional distillation?
Asked by Pramesha Biswas | 14 Aug, 2012, 09:44: PM
answered-by-expert Expert Answer
Azeotropes have the same composition in both the liquid and vapour phase. Also, they have specific boiling points at which the entire solution evaporates, and not any one component of the azeotrope. Fractional distillation depends on difference in boiling points, which is not seen on azeotropes. So it can 't be used for separation.
